What keeps people on the internet up at night? It could be Michael Myers in the latest Halloween film series, or worse – it could be your website.

If your website has a ghastly design, it’s likely stopping you from getting leads, scaring away potential customers and sabotaging your way to becoming an authoritative brand.

In this blog post, we will point out the web design mistakes that could be scaring your visitors and the reasons you should fix them.

Web design mistakes that could give your users quivering shivers:

1. Technical glitches that will send a chill down your spine

Technical glitches are like a web of cobwebs that can make your website look like it’s abandoned in some dark corner of the world. If you’re not careful, these technical glitches will make your site look amateur. Some of the technical glitches that could be scaring away your customers are:

– 404 Error Pages
– Broken Links
– White Screen of Death

To avoid this, make sure to regularly check your website for any broken links or errors.

2. Spine-tingling user experience

What’s the best thing you love about going to Sephora or an Adidas store? Well, we bet that won’t be the pricing factor, though. The answer is appealing categorised aisles, aesthetically pleasing alignment, and how they present products. The same goes for your website; make it the best for your potential customers without letting them call the Ghostbusters to save themselves.

A dull design with a dreary user experience will not only scare away your customers but also reflect poorly on your business and make it look untrustworthy. So make sure to regularly check your website for any errors or outdated designs.

3. Scary slow website speed

7 Web Design Mistakes Bloodcurdling low speed

No one has that much time to wait for a website that takes ages to load a webpage! This is the hustle culture we live in, and today’s world demands no time-consuming tasks. Even Anabelle prey her victims within a jiff without thinking twice, so why do we want to wait for that? If you want to keep the users hooked on to your website, then your site needs to load in less than 3 seconds. So, if your website loads slow, then it’s time you give it a makeover.

4. Nerve-racking layout

Suppose a user is dumped into the pothole of an outdated layout of a website. In that case, they aren’t able to call Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren to minimise the paranormal shenanigans of your website. Because if a website is not optimised for all devices, it can easily scare away fragile hearts in one go. Responsive web design offers a seamless browsing experience to website visitors and this can increase lead generation, sales and conversions.

5. Ghostly call-to-action

7 Web Design Mistakes ghostly call to action

What’s scarier than having customers on your website interested in your services, but no CTA buttons signalling them what they need to do next? The fact that around 70% of small businesses don’t have CTAs on their website. A straightforward CTA button, without any pop-ups attached, can make a casual user into a lifelong customer.

A Call To Action is some form of text, button or any other element on your website that instructs a website visitor to take immediate action. CTA might be a simple instructional text, such as “call us now”, “chat with us today” or “download the PDF”.
If you are a part of the 70%, it’s time you upgrade your website.

6. Terrifying typography

If you don’t think the fonts on your website matter, think again. Just like any other element of your website design, typography follows rules – font size, hierarchy and text combinations. Beautiful and well-established typography can increase your conversion rates and create a positive user experience on your website.

To fix this web design mistake, make sure your website is readable, use complimentary typefaces, and have an established hierarchy with your headers, body text and alt text.

7. Soul-crushing content

One of the web design mistakes that could be spooky for your website visitors is useless content and grammar mistakes.
Your content should give readers valuable information, optimised for your target audience and niche. With high-quality content, you help drive traffic to your website and engage with your customer.

Let’s wind this up before we get too scared

Don’t give your website visitors the heebie-jeebies with poor website design, offer them a wonderful experience with a well-design and beautiful website.

Fixing these mistakes will help you improve your SEO, and engagement rate, lower your bounce rate, enhance your website’s usability and the most important thing – your customers won’t close your site screaming.
